Do brown rice or oats have yeast or wheat in them?

By admin | Oct 12, 2009

I know this sounds like it may be a dumb questions, but Im starting my cats on a raw food diet which will have small amounts of coked oats and brown rice in it. My one cat is severely allergic to wheat and yeast among 30 (literally) other things and I have to be sure that brown rice and oats do not contain wheat or yeast.
The allergy test revealed that he is allergic to wheat, so the vet said that wheat itself and any wheat by product (inc. gluten) is harful to him.

This is not a dumb question. Neither of them have yeast or wheat in them. Wheat is a plant all of it’s own. It is often in flours. Yeast is a fungi that eats sugars and then "burps" making whatever you add it to gain air volume.

An oat is an oat. Brown rice is brown rice (rice with the hull intact). Both are great whole grains which have nothing to do with wheat or yeast unless combined by man.

Just a little aside question. Is it a wheat or gluten allergy?
I serve my cats brown rice with boiled meats.
