I’ve been battling a persistent yeast AND bacterial infection for 6 months now. Started with bactieral infection…been treating that, and about 2 months ago got a yeast infection on top of it! So, now i’ve had both for about 2 months. My doc and I have tried EVERYTHING!! Oral meds, antifungal creams, metrogel, relaguard, etc. I’ve been takign acidopholus (sp?) for about 5 weeks now. Just went back to the doc today, and still have BOTH infections. She has decided the next step to try metrogel twice a day for 2 weeks (previously, it had been once/day for 2 weeks, and then twice a day for 1 week), and diflucan twice a day for 2 weeks (i have not tried diflucan yet). continue acidopholus.
She also wants me to pretty much eliminate sugar and white starches from my diet. This is my main question. What does this include? Obviously no white bread, whtie rice or potatos. No "real" sugar (i.e. in dessert). What aobut artificial sweeteners ? What about fruit? Oatmeal? HELP! other advice??

well, part of the problem is probably that your man is carrying this bacteria, and yeast that is giving you BV and the yeast infections. He should go to his doctor and get a prescription of flagyl. Have you tried this anti fungal pill (flagyl)? I had this same problem for quite a while and finally got it under control with flagyl and acidophilus, and having my husband treated. There are also many different types of yeast and my doc said that some medicines do not cure all types of yeast infections. I would say to have fruit in moderation and probably no oatmeal. Artificial sweeteners are probably OK. This just seems like a weird thing to do. Consider changing doctors. And of course no douching, bubble baths and make sure you change your tampon every four hours, make sure you are wiping front to back and using mild soap. I found out finally that my problem was coming from my husband ejaculating inside of me. It throws off your PH in your vagina and in turn gives these bacterias an environment for rapid reproduction. Try eliminating that for a while until you get things under control. I personally HATE metrogel! Its nasty and gross and you cant have intercourse for a while unless you want a big mess. I’m a big fan of flagyl, it always worked for me. Good luck.
my wife battles this constantly. The diflucan should do it, in the short term. Consider treating your significant other too, as a possible carrier.
You can probably have fresh fruit. Eat Yogurt it helps to maintain you pH balance. I might also try seeing a different doctor. If it is this bad then something else must be wrong. 6 months is a long time. and being on antibiotics and such for that long is harmful to your body. It will also make it hard to treat future illnesses and infections with antibiotics.
If you are taking antibiotics for bacterial infection your dr. should know that antibiotics can give you a yeast infection. As for diflucan it is a good medication will clear you up in about a week if not then I think you need to see a specialist on the subject because you will spend more money guessing in weeks that a specialist can clear up for certainty and you will know where you stand on the subject
Are you under stress? Stress affects your body in many ways. Eat salad and no sugar. Cleanse your body by drinking a lot of water.
Have you been tested for diabetes? Persistent yeast infections are a major symptom. Caused by way too much sugar in your body. If you haven’t been tested, you should.
no oatmeal, sweeteners are okay. fruit is probably okay, in small doses. Keep to veggies and protien lik elean chicken or beef for a while. Its borring, but ya gotta get this under control.
Your partner needs treatment as well, that may be why it keeps cycling back. I don’t know about eliminating sugars from your diet, I would think this is a hormonal situation, I would seek care with a different doc myself.
Try this book - it might help you understand what has sugars and starches and understand the yeast infection more It’s called Yeast Connection Handbook by William Crook. If I remember right there was a cookbook as well
Another thing you may want to try is a detox especially for Candida
I see on this page in the source that there are a few more books on the subject you may want to try them as well.
The above answers are a lot of information. Two aspects I will mention here is
Your diet: Vegetables and proteins….No cheeses as possible and sure no pasta, white rice and sugar. Avoid artificial sweeteners as they do not help your immune system. Most grains convert in sugar It is kind of bare diet. I would start with sugar white bread and pasta. That is already a lot
Treat your vagina with garlic and yoghurt or kefir. Some people think it is disgusting but it works. Also keep going with your acidophilus and or kefir. Be sure you have a good quality and it should be in the fridge. Take Oil of Oregano by mouth for at least 6 weeks and recheck yourself with the spit test. Oil of Oregano is anti bacterial anti viral/ anti yeast/ fungal remedy….amazing. It is a long process but it will increase your health and immune system on the long run.
